How To Apply To Your Chosen Culinary School

By Girish Jaju

Knowing the steps on how to apply to your chosen culinary school is important if you want to be sure that you would be able to get into not just that particular school but also the culinary arts program that you want to take. If you have decided that a career in the culinary industry is what you want and are wondering what you need to do to make sure that you would get accepted into the culinary school of your choice, here are a couple of pointers that should help you out.

The first thing that you have to do would be to get a list of all the requirements which you need to submit. You should be able to get information about this by contacting the admissions department of the culinary school you have chosen or by visiting their website.

You should then get an application form either through downloading it from the website of the school or through requesting for one from their admissions department. Once you have a form, fill it out with accurate and complete information before submitting it. You may also need to pay an application fee, depending on the school that you are applying to.

In addition to the application form, you may also be asked to submit a number of other documents and requirements, depending on the school and program you are applying to. Some of the documents and requirements that most culinary schools ask from their applicants include: a high school diploma or a GED certificate; official transcripts from past schools; and letters of recommendation. You may also be required to submit a written statement or an essay which discusses your reasons for wanting to study culinary arts and enter the culinary or food service industry.

Most culinary schools today also require their applicants to take an entrance test and undergo an admissions interview. The entrance test is usually a pass/fail test which assesses the proficiency of applicants in grammar, reading comprehension, and math; it typically does not have any questions related to culinary arts. The interview, on the other hand, is often used by culinary schools as a way to evaluate the interest of their applicants in the field of culinary arts. Some of the questions you can expect to be asked during the interview include questions about your educational background and work experience as well as questions about your career plans in the culinary industry.

After taking the test, going through the interview, and submitting everything that the culinary school you have chosen is asking for, all you need to do would be to wait for your application to be processed; and once you receive the good news, you should be well on your way towards getting the education and training you need to have a successful career in the culinary industry.
